Okay, I'm gonna have to confess something. Last week Best Buy had the 28" Viewsonic on sale for 599. Great deal for the size but of course you pay for what you get alot of the time. I will post a mini review below, but in conclusion, I'm returning it back!

So this leaves me with a problem. I want a 1920x1200 resolution monitor, and 24" is too small for my liking (esp after having this 28"). So what would you recommend? My budget is $1K. I'm leaning more towards a 27"/28" myself, but wouldn't mind settling on a 26".

Viewsonic 2835wm

[1-up]
All the inputs you will need (S-Video/Video-In along with analog, Audio-In 3.5", HDMI, VGA)
1080p (not tested by myself though)
Comes with HDMI to DVI cable, VGA, Video-In with analog, 3.5" male to male
27.5" of real estate
Price when on sale

[Koopa Troopa]
Horrible display (I think it's a gamma issue) - darker at the bottom of the screen, and lighter at the top
Speakers are very basic (most users will not need this) - no way to remove these
I'm very sure this is a TN Panel (although viewing angles were pretty decent imo - horizontally anyways)
Can only tilt the screen (no swivel or height adjustment)

[Game Over]
Okay so there are more 1-ups than Koopas (which is always a good thing in Mario Bros ). The gamma issue bugged me alot. At first I thought I could live with it, really, it got annoying after only a few days of use. I fiddled with all kinds of settings but in the end, I could not get the gamma to be "uniform" throughout. Installed drivers just to see if that helped but no. Gaming on this showed no ghosting, although again gamma issue made colours "bleached" at times (esp near the bottom of the screen). This would make a good HDTV though, but for a monitor, it's not great, although passable.

5/10 - maybe 2-3/10 by APH standards

That's disappointing, there reallly ought to be some better "bargain-priced" monitors out there. I've never really tried Viewsonic myself, nor will I do so in the near future

Viewsonic has a long list of monitors, from mid end to low end, all quite affordable. Almost similar to all products. I have had many experiences with their CRT line and although they may not rank in the top, compared to Sony or NEC, they are still great. Of course we are talking LCDs only today, and Viewsonic aren't bad, I guess just don't expect much in terms of best bang for the buck.

I've been reading up on some stuff, and Westinghouse and a few Acer models are very good bargains, but they use the same panel as high end LCDs (from NEC, Planar, etc)

Why not try a Dell monitor? I hear that our administrator is a big fan of them.

Right now, I'm leaning towards 2 monitors, the Samsung 275T and a Dell 27". I'm just reading user reviews and are stating of input lag with these monitors. There is Westinghouse but I'm reluctant on grabbing one of their monitors, even though it is quite feature rich. Any comments on the two I am leaning towards.

As a comparison, the Hannstar TN is being used on the Viewsonic 28" and the Hans-G 28". From what I have read, the Hans-G is better but I feel sometimes these are more personal preference than anything. Yeah definately still yucky though, I agree chc

I did not have enough time to take any pics, but it's still at home so if I can't return it today (busy day today), I will take pix for ya boomer :( Also, since this is moved to reviews, it would be a good idea  Regular price on this monitor is $800, which is in a similar price range as other 27"/28" on sale, so therefore, this could've been one of those diamond in the roughs, but it turns out that it's just another shiny stone lol. If you're into shiny stones, this is a decent monitor when on sale, and good enough for HDTV. Regular price, I would not buy this and pay the extra 200 for a much better panel.

They should have fixed the input lag on the 2407WFP-HC. The Samsung 275T is pretty nice, all the T-series have a S-PVA panel. Actually the Dell 2707WFP and 275T has the exact same S-PVA panel, but personally I would get Dell just for the better warranty.

For input lag, do u know if it is fixed for larger panels, as that is what appears to be the issue (in most cases)? Not many people complain about 24" with that bein more of the norm for gaming @ 1920.

My only concern with the Dell is the dead pixel rule. I would hate to ship it back, whereas if I just went to FS for the 275T, I could return/exchange it. I do prefer the Dell one though. Even if I bought it locally, not many of these stores do in store warranty, you work with the manufacturer. Only FS/BB seems to be best cuz of their policy. Do you happen to know about Dell's dead pixel policies?

There's also the 275T Plus, which has HDMI and DVI. This is what I'm looking for, but I'm getting a HDTV eventually so HDMI is not as important.

Thanks for the inputs

sorry boomer, no pics since I returned it that night. Really, it's nothing to look at, except for the size. Some pics that are not mine

You're only guaranteed for the first 30 days, afterwards you are screwed

Dell does Advance RMA for three years, and they do some uber express shipping where you'll get the product next day anyway, and you send yours back within 10 days. Meanwhile you can enjoy two of the monitors for a few days

I have less of an issue with a dead pixel appearing after a little useage. I have a problem if it is shipped to me like this. I am super glad to hear that Dell offers great return policies for this. I'm gonna go out and try the 275T, but if there is anything I don't like about it, I"m going for a refund and the Dell will be coming  The 275T is cheaper atm.

I'll def be posting pix of the 275T for you boomer

I got the 24" Westinghouse instead. No one had the 275T in stock, and the fact that Samsung has disco'd it (according to BB). I'm looking to see if the Plus will be at FS/BB but right now, I might be going with Dell, but won't be until next week.

I'll post some pics of the Westinghouse, tho it's my cell cam. Will start a new thread for a mini review.

Haha, the stand? I'm gonna keep my Dell for sure. It will make a great personal monitor and I love the display on it as that is kind of my measuring stick atm. My CRT right now is just sitting there doing nothing, but it's almost time to bring it back to life lol.

Believe it or not, I'm actually looking to find a super large CRT (Y)

Yep, I love height adjustable stands. Too bad my Dell SP2008WFP doesn't have it, and I can't be bothered to spend 30 bucks for one on eBay. (Y)

I rarely use it, and that is because almost all monitors I've owned don't have it. It'd be nice to wall mount though

Yeah they need some design that doesn't need to drill holes but we will have to wait for that.

A wall mount that doesn't need to drill holes? Suction cups won't hold up a monitor... microsuction works better, but it won't do the job either. How is it going to 'wall mount'... force field? Lol (Y)
