I was strolling about the University earlier this year (in September) and came across this poster:

Since I'm a big fan of COD B) I bought it for a small fee.

I've been playing COD4 for quite a while, except while I have exams, homework, etc. (Not a good idea to play during those times B)). I've watched some replays of COD6 on youtube and I totally got hooked!! And so I went to Market Mall to pre-order my copy (release date: 11.10.09) :P

The one thing I'm mad about is that MW2 will not have dedicated servers. They have custom matchmaking like Xbox Live, this is a PC game for goodness sakes. Why would I want to run off your crappy matchmaking services??? Especially when most dedicated servers are more fun and just overall makes for better performance.

Yes indeed. They've also had it for COD4, apparently. However, in COD4, when playing multiplayer online, the servers tend to match your skill level with those who are approximately the same skill level as yours. Depending on your viewpoint, it may be a good/bad thing. Good: you don't have to have a team of noobs and be pwned, but you could also pwn others B). Bad: maybe there's no bad... but I think a "bad" might be there's more competition between players, and you have to spend many hours playing and working your way up (if you're that intense).

~~if that's what you mean shc (may have misinterpreted) B)

Haha nice poster B)

Wait, you can't choose your own server? So you are just assigned to one? B)

That's one of the Gripes I have with this game. Otherwise the gameplay is pretty fun.

I think you guys misunderstood me! There are no dedicated servers! No privately run servers, just in house matchmaking servers. That means no fun for alot of PC players.

MW2 on PC is probably much different than MW2 on PS3 or the 360. One of my friends showed me COD4 on PC and, in terms of servers, it's somewhat different than COD4 on my PS3. Even some of the gameplay features were slightly different. Sorry if I misunderstood B)

In COD4, basically, tt auto-assigns you to what I have mentioned (the skill level, or rather, that's what it seems like its doing unless there's only noobs online).

Again, I don't think you understand just how deep this is. Matchmaking is not really a problem here, Left 4 Dead has great matchmaking for games be it based on skill level or not. But that is because of the private dedicated and/or modded servers. CoD 4 was what it was because of it's abundance of dedicated and private servers. Who wants to matchmake when they can have their own clan server?

Bowling revealed that matchmaking within Modern Warfare 2 would be reliant on proprietary server technology (called IWNet), and wouldn't allow users to host their own dedicated servers.

Even without a doctorate in PC gaming affairs, it's easy to see how this fact would upset someone (or some community) who drops a wad of cash every month on renting a private server. Also preturbed by this news are fans of modded game modes and custom maps -- both of which would be unlikely under the IWNet framework. While Bowling maintained that the new server tech would be a boon for the PC gaming community, most hardcore PC gamers aren't particularly thrilled about MW2's server hosting capabilities being brought into parity with those of the console versions of the game.

This article is based on the PC version of MW2. Server dedication differs between each console. It's not a matter of whether its COD4 or MW2. You simply cannot compare COD4 to MW2. I agree that there may be differences between COD4 to MW2 on the PC, but for other consoles, there still may be dedicated and private servers.

Again, this has been stated in the article.

Yes, and I have stated even before you have shown this article.
