Picked this up on Friday (the day after tracking down a 360)
Liking the game but not liking the amount of crashes I'm suffering. It's locking up about once every 45 mins/hour with a "this disc cannot be read" problem.
I popped the disc out and there appear to be small marks on the disc, nothing like the ring of death you get if you tilt the console - but enought to set me thinking.
With the console being so new I wonder if I have dodgy hardware or if this is a game-related issue.
Anyone care to share their experiences, so I can decide if I need to return my console?
Cheers

Try several other games in your and hopefully someone else's 360 to try and isolate the problem.

Which version of Oblivion are you playing? GOTY? I hope your not playing a saved file game. I heard you get a lot of crashes if you play saved files. I first borrowed my friends Elder scroll IV:Oblivion, had no crashes of any sort until i started hitting high hours of game play (with 6 different saves). I bought Elder scroll IV:Oblivion GOTY for the shivering isles expansion. I always get a crash about 30 minutes into the game (first crash), after the first crash it takes about 1 1/2-3 hours per crash. Oblivion was the second game i ever played, never had this problem at first. I would assume that it would deal with the space in the hard drive because when i play Oblivion now (After playing Grid, COD4:MW/MW2, COD:WOW, FO3, LBP, and GT5) i get several screen spikes over time and on the loading screen, the load bar freezes for about 10-15s before it starts.
