Don't you have a laptop to test it out? Most wireless cards are dual band. (With the exception of stuff like the Intel WiFi Link 1000, which is surprising.)

Wouldn't EXT4 provide pretty good performance since the device is Linux based regardless? For my NAS I use EXT4 and it's significantly better than EXT3.

No laptops, except for the occasional one that gets dropped off to get worked on and most of those are lower end ones.

I'll have to find where I saw that about which FS it handles. I do know that it can be accessed from both HTTP and FTP (if you choose) as well as on the LAN side.

Thanks for the screenshots - surprised you didn't get the WRT610N instead. Why dual band if you don't have 5GHz?

Just for future option. I'm looking for a dual band PCI card, but the only one I've seen is Linksys.

Ok I've done some testing with the wireless. Just checking to see if these speeds are normal. Test was done from about 30' away through 2-3 walls and the floor/ceiling. I'm connecting at 270 with a excellent signal. InSSIDer is reporting around -40 to -50 on the signal. I'm getting around 65Mbit/s 8MB/s. Are these fairly normal speeds or do I need to move the antennas around?

Just a quick update:

I've had it just over a week now and no issues. I'm getting consistent transfers in the 8-8.5 (with peaks in the 9's) MB/s range. That seems to be the best I can get with where the router and machine are located. No reboots or dropped connections either under pretty much the same usage conditions as before.

Nice, good to hear that it is working out for you alot more than your old Linksys.

Moved the antenna around some more and did a transfer using Robocopy to get some solid numbers on speed. Used a 3GB file (Win7 x64 from Technet, removed the ei.cfg and renamed it :D ). Got an average of 9.22 MB/s on the 2.4GHz band. That's probably about the best I can hope for through 3 walls and the floor/ceiling.

EDIT: Forgot to add that at 9.22MB/s, it's 3 times as fast as what I got with wireless G (right at 3MB/s) ;)

That looks pretty good over the 2.4GHz band. 2.4GHz will provide better sustained performance over longer range, but you're likely to say 12-14MB/s over 5GHz (I did with my 5300AGN).

12-14MB/s sounds pretty good for me. Well for wireless anyways.

The only dual band PCI card I can find is the Linksys WMP600N, but really don't want to spend $70 on a wireless card. If it comes down a little more, I might pick it up.

Yeah, I would just hardwire using a really long CAT5e in that case

Not really an option, well it kinda is but would be a PITA to do, wireless is soooo much more convenient.

Just wanted to give a ~3month update. All's good with it, still waiting for dd-wrt support, but the stock FW is quite useable. No issues or anything like that, much better than my POS Linksys WRT-54G V8 (even with dd-wrt). I've had to reboot it maybe once/twice because of some settings I changed, but it's been rock solid running 24/7 with 2 machines on Gig, one on N and a "freebie" machine I got that's using G for now. My how quickly I forgot just how slow G speeds are.

Just the one or two, but none because it was acting up.

Just got my May edition of MaximumPC and it got a 9/Kick *** and has replaced the WRT600N as the Best Of The Best WiFi Router.

:P Meh its MaximumPC - not to mention the WRT610N is its successor.

It still ranks pretty high over at SmallNetBuilder, beating the 610N in every test except for the Maximum Simultaneous Connections where they tie.

It's still a work in progress, but the stock FW has a boat load of features. Biggest thing is that it's stable. So after using it for 4 months now, I feel it was a good choice.

Kinda hate to revive this thread, but just wanted to post a Happy Birthday to my WNDR-3700. B)

This thing has been rock solid with only 2-3 necessary reboots because of some lag, although it may have just been the modem (rebooted both). Still using the stock FW even though there is official dd-wrt support now, the stock has no real issues unlike some of the Linksys products I've used in the past.

Glad to see that it's held it's value over this amount of time. Paid 200+tax at BB (because Newegg was sold out) and it's 150 at the egg a year later (180 at BB), I think that's pretty good for a tech product. Overall I'm very happy with it... even after a year later.

:P Finally DD-WRT support? Just flash it!

Glad to hear it works well though.
