The box it came in, man this thing is like 2.8 pounds..

Posted Image
Opened box, and very well protected. The battery is below the first layer, I didn't bother taking a pic of that.

Posted Image
All the parts that came with it. I didn't use the power cord yet, and I'm fine with just the batery. But i was only charged for 30 minutes or so.

Posted Image
The top of the case, very shiny.

Posted Image
The inside. Yes, XP on it, mass sh**ware, but I put Ubuntu on it.

Posted Image
Here's Ubuntu on it..

I haven't checked the said 8.5 battery life yet, but it should be rather good.

But, man this thing is LIGHT. I mean, compared to my Dell Vostro 1500, this is like 1/4 the weight.. It's only 2.8 pounds

It's rather cool to the touch, compared to my Vostro.

I like the effect that when its on battery, it's as bright as can be, but when you are not using the keyboard or mouse for a minute or so, the screen light goes down a little bit, saving your battery life. It stays bright while on the power cord. Even the power brick is small.

It gets finger prints on it easily, but that's just a small problem, not like you're gonna be looking at that 24/7.

I also got a sleeve for it, to protect it while not in use

All in all, it's a good system, it takes a while to get used to it, but once you do, youre fine.

I can't get the web cam working on Ubuntu, but I'm not that worried about it.

Rating: 9/10

(I'll add more pics after I get Ubuntu the way i like it :P)

Looks good. What's wrong with a fresh install of XP instead of Ubuntu?

No idea what you meant by that... But hopefully you will enjoy your netbook.

I will put 7 on it later, as I have to get a x32 version, because I have only x64, and it doesn't work on the netbook.

x86 keys will work with x64 and vice versa.

Why Windows 7? Netbooks run so much better on XP overall.

There's actually a 1005HA on display at NCIX Aberdeen running Windows 7 Starter Edition, it's not THAT bad, but then again it is the Starter Edition.

If you're comparing that to Windows XP Home, I think I would take Windows 7.

Nah, I would still take Windows XP, better battery life and runs alot smoother.

I am not to enter a debate of operating systems (It's mainly out of personal preference, really) but Windows 7 scales very well. XP is an 8 year old OS, like seriously. And the interface in my opinion has always been very plastic-ky/childish. Which brilliant UI designer comes up with a green/blue taskbar?

;)

Would be interesting to see Netbook battery life/performance review with Windows XP Home versus Windows 7 Starer though.

I guess, it would be alot better if there was a better and easier way to test this. Even with scaling, XP just overall runs better on netbooks. It is more like the nature of the beast.

You guys need to talk with Wolken. He asked me several times if I am going to put 7 on my netbook. He put 7 on two Acer netbooks for a friend, and he said it was fine.

I put 7 on it now, it does drain the battery a bit. I turned down some of the extra crap, and it's a lot better.

Back to you chc, I know x86 keys are reversible to x64 ones, the problem was that I didn't have a x86 dvd.

Windows 7 should have superior power management capabilities. Numerous features implemented in Vista helps as well; it's been two generations of OSes already.

Should but really doesn't some tests from alot of sites show the loss of battery life. Superior power management but still does use more resources and reduces battery life.

The speakers on here aren't the best, but what can you expect from a netbook's speaker?

And with Win 7 on here, I get ~5.5 hours of battery life. Not like I was expecting 8.5 hours, anyway.

I know that 7 has the same core as Vista, but if I put Vista on here, would I get better performance, at all? Sorry all, but I'm not putting XP on here. As chc said, It's an 8 year old OS.

Not really. Windows Vista is less optimized for performance (It gets closer after SP2) but as far as I know Windows 7 still has superior power management. I get slightly better battery life -- around 0.5 to 1 hour which is around 10% -- on my Lenovo T400.

Alright, thanks chc. On my dad's Toshiba w/ Vista, it does have less power management than 7 has on my netbook.
