Hey, I love boxing week, just picked up another new toy for the holidays. It was also open box but heck it can run DD-WRT and it was only $90CAD.

Nice, another Linksys WRT610N owner

DD-WRT is pretty awesome on this router. It's a very powerful device and DD-WRT unleashes its amazing capabilities.

DD-WRT is awesome on the router. Just remember theres some setting tricks to it which the chc should know since presp2 has some bugs. It's an amazing router, welcome to the club!

There's not much other than the fact you need to set the second wireless adapter to mixed a/n mode, otherwise it will lock to 2.4GHz if you set to N only.

Ah, is V1 the same as the one you got from NCIX, or is there only one version so far?

I'd hate to buy like a V2 just to find it it doesn't support DD-WRT

DD-WRT supports V2 now somewhat. There's only a generic file though, so I believe V1 still has better/full support with the mega firmware.

V1 is more supported but slowly it will phase out more into V2. However at $90 for the V1 OB it was a steal. New ones(V2s) on sale right now are $150, good deal but still. Just reset router, probably gonna spend tomorrow installing DD-WRT.

Hey, sorry if I sound ignorant, but what's the difference in specifications between the WRT610N and the WRT160N model? There's like a $30 dollar difference brand new for these two routers and the guy I asked didn't know a thing about them.

The WRT610N is a simultaneous dual band N router, which means it can function on mixed N on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequency. It has a more powerful processor and RAM as well as #of antennas too I believe, not sure on that. It also has 4 Gigabit ports which the WRT160N does not. The WRT160N only supplies N on a single 2.4GHz band.

If you want what is basically a WRT610N without dual band you're looking at the WRT310N.

Well, lets start with simultaneous dual band, the 5.0Ghz wavelength, the differences are huge!

The WRT310N has Gigabit though, and 3 antennas. The WRT610N has 3 antennas per band, whereas the WRT160N has only 2.

WRT400N if you don't need simultaneous Dual N. The WRT610N is the best consumer Linksys out there, can't go wrong - I only bought it because the chc got one, and it's amazing.

The thing is, my Intel Ultimate WiFi Link 5300AGN (Possibly one of the best wireless cards out there) only has 3 antennas

Yeah, I'm sure my Netbook doesn't even have 3 antennas, I really don't need the fourth lol.
