I *think* this is the right spot for this, if not please move it.

I've been running Vista Ultimate x86 for awhile and have been wanting to make the move to 7 and 64bit, but there were a few things preventing me from doing it, mainly software. Well that ended the other day and I've made the move and installed Win 7 Pro x64. All my "must have" apps either worked fine or had to get updated versions, except for my beloved RivaTuner (so I can control my GPU's fan speed based on temps). No matter what I did it just wouldn't work and tried just about everything, but I finally found something that works.

Unwinder (the maker of RivaTuner) has been working with MSI to create a overclocking/tweaking app for their GPU's called Afterburner and hasn't had much free time to work on RivaTuner. Well, it turns out that it also works (for the most part) with other vendors products (for now anyways). I wasn't really concerned about OC'ing the card, just wanted to control the fan speeds and the MSI Afterburner works just fine for that task.

So I'm happy now  and just wanted to share this info for others having issues with RivaTuner on x64 based OS's.

Sweet

Tried this?

Personally I barely had anything that won't work under 64-bit (Or at least in 32 bit under x64), and having 8+ GB of RAM is amazing stuff.

Windows 7 x64 FTW! There's no reason to not go 64-bit nowadays, especially since 4GB is becoming the standard.

Yep, sure did. Even tried a slightly older version of RT. Tried the
bcdedit -set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
with no luck. RT will sort of work, but it's some issue about unsigned drivers and that's where my problem is at. The Afterburner works fine for what I wanted to do though. I actually like the way you can set up to 8 points/nodes for fan speeds/temps.

@TL
Yep, I've had 4GB for awhile now, it's nice being able to use all of it.

I never really understood why people have 4GB or so of RAM and never moved on to 64 bit. With modern day hardware, and the third generation of 64-bit Windows, things are already pretty darn good. I've been using Vista x64 since forever. (Never had 64 bit XP Professional though)

Well, when I first built this machine it only had 2GB. Then several months later one stick died and got a 4GB set of OCZ Reapers for $23 (after rebates) while I waited for the RMA. I just really didn't feel like reinstalling everything at that point in time, so I lived with it. Now the wife has her original 2GB set along with my 2GB replacement set, so I'll be migrating her machine to x64 soon.

Nice, everyone is migrating towards 64-bit, my next build will be 64 bit. Too lazy to reinstall 64 bit on here.

Haha true. When I had 4GB on my desktop, I had Vista Ultimate 32-bit installed (The reason I had 32 bit was because 32 bit was cheaper than 64-bit for OEM back then, and I didn't have time to find 64-bit ISO, so I installed anyway.). Then I got lazy and didn't convert to 64 bit until Windows 7 like yourself.

It's quite sad, Windows 7 32-bit is actually around $10 more expensive at regular price, and the difference is even greater when it's on sale. Yet some people still insist on going for 32-bit over 64-bit.

Yep, that was the same for me too. I'd said to myself though that if I needed to reinstall for any reason it'd be 64 bit. Had I really put some thought into it, I'd went with 64 bit to begin with. JUst thought it was kinda overkill with just 2GB.

I just took inventory of the software on the wifes machine and using Snyctoy to mirror her docs and stuff. Her machine is going to go quicker than mine did because she's got alot less stuff.

Wow, I didn't know 32 bit was more expensive, but I have been living off my MSDNA access this year.

Well, realistically you are after the license. Your key works on 32 bit and 64 bit.

Either way MSDNAA FTW.

Just got the wifes machine switched over. Just have a few things to tidy up and I'll be done.

Keys does not differentiate between 32-bit and 64-bit since Windows Vista, only between editions (Home Premium, Business, etc)

Well I'm using my TechNet subscription for some "extended long-term, real world" testing and evaluation.

I have found a issue. If you have the superbar on the left side with it wider than one small icons width and it's set to auto-hide and locked, and run some games like Bejeweled 2 Deluxe (for example), it will resize the superbar to a narrow bar once you exit the game from full screen.

Graphic drivers? I heard about this problem somewhere - just don't remember where.

Yeah, I have heard of this error before too, try to update your drivers.

Yeah, was kinda thinking that too. Just couldn't really narrow it down to it being a Windows or nVidia or a combo of the two. Running the latest WHQL nVidia 196.21 drivers. I can also reproduce the problem on the wifes machine (very similar hardware and setup). Worked fine in Vista x86 though.

Thanks for the info though.

EDIT: After some looking around, I found this site http://www.windows7t...e.com/view/3404 that describes the issue I'm having, since it's dated Nov 2009, I'm now sure it's a Windows issue, not driver issue. Just like the person there, I can confirm that it does not happen when you turn auto-hide off.

Hmmm, maybe you should try to see if Microsoft will help. It may not be big but once in a while they fix what is pointed out.
