I'm planning to build a MiniITX based computer - any recommendations for motherboards? I don't recall any Atom reviews as of late.

Asus AT5NM10-I http://www.asus.com/...j7v0&templete=2
Gigabyte GA-D510UD http://www.gigabyte-...?ProductID=3357

I'll probably try to get a hold of them for review in the near future, but either should be very good choices.

I would wait a month or two, pick up one of those boards with Nvidia ION2. Save yourself some cash from overkill in the graphics department.

Well, let's just say the graphics would be a heck of a lot better. Since your bottleneck will be the CPU, you really only need the ION 2 or a real discrete graphics card. However, it would be easier to just get an ION 2 build. Probably more energy efficient and comes in one package. Sources say early 2010, which should mean March. Various other sources claim April. I would go for the March one.

Why is graphics performance a significant issue? I don't think many would be using it for gaming. :P

I think this pretty much sums it up for me. HD video performance benchmarks: http://www.xbitlabs....o_10.html#sect0

For me a decent nettop/Mini-ITX build requires at the very least 1080p playback from more than MPEG-2. Some light gfx performance never hurts as well. Games depend from user to user, but being able to run some games would be nice as well. I'm just saying, ION 2 should be worth the wait since the ION 2 should be even better than the original ION. However, knowing Nvidia, it will probably be something like a G310 rebranded.

I can't find any stores selling the Gigabyte motherboard, but the Asus AT5NM10-I is only around $100, so if you really want to wait... :P

Up to you TL, personally, I don't think ION 2 will be that far off. However, the current NM10 builds are inexpensive.

Yep. I haven't been paying too much attention in this area -- how does the price of NVIDIA ION2 compare against NM10? Both are new platforms regardless.

Well, speculations states that it will be somewhere in the neighborhood of $25 to $75 more. There might also be two versions of ION 2 as well.

Yep, that sound about right. Despite the price, I am pretty sure that it will be worth the wait though.

Too bad they only come with PCI slots. Otherwise we can just slap in a $50 graphics card and call it a day.

That is one of the things about ION 2, it comes with the PCIE slot and should have Nvidia Optimus [Prime] technology.

I hate to double post but it has been released. This stuff is for netbooks, but it will be in nettops and new mobos soon as well.
