Behold, arguably the best sound card ever made.

Nice! Can't wait for this review, as I haven't read many audio card reviews.

What's the usual retail price for this card?

Is it me or is that sound card quite big for a sound card?

Nope, standard size. Maybe because you haven't seen a real sound card for years

Regular price is $299. Most will come with $20 MIR. So generally you can grab this sound card for $279

Just $299 over my sound card budget. Hope it is worth the price.

Thanks chc/Anthony! That's fair bit of moolah. Still, if you're an audiophile, then it'll be worth said moolah.

Yeah, there has been a stock issue as far as I know. I'm glad I got my hands on it -- it should turn out pretty well. I'll see if I can get it installed tomorrow and we can run some RMAA's against the X-Fi Prelude as a reference. I don't think it would make a significant difference in that regard though. Anything less than 'Excellent' is not acceptable

Subjective listening tests should go a long way, along with its features.

If anything the subjective listening tests are a more important factor in deciding whether this is a good card or not than the RMAA tests.

To be honest at that price point, anything less than over the top amazing is somewhat of a let down.

Yeah, pretty much. I found RMAA valuable for testing motherboards in particular, but as far as sound cards are concerned RMAA does not tell us the sound characteristics of the sound card; only the frequency data.

No, I'm just using frequency data for every common combination.

I am kind of disappointed by the fact that it uses a Cirrus Logic CS4382A DAC though. Otherwise everything is top notch.
