As you guys may or may not have known, I have been away from Canada for a while and have been traveling around Asia. A couple of days ago I was in Japan but now I'm in HK and I picked up a new cell phone today, just thought I would share some pictures with you guys.

This will be replacing my brick of a phone which I got a few years back. Take a look here: http://aphnetworks.c...8-in-hong-kong/

ZOMG, HTC Desire, I'm getting that soon. IIRC it has no 3G support for Rogers/Fido networks in Canada though.

How much did you get it for?

Whoa, nice. :P 480x800 screen really makes a difference too, haha. How's the media interface and camera quality?

Very nice touch with Android and Sense, it all works like a charm. The Snapdragon is as fast as advertised, the only downside is the 512MB of rom but a Micro SD card can be used to fix that space issue. Everything is great so far, in terms of price it is $4590 HKD, which is only $80 HKD difference from my last phone. Works out to be about $590USD. The 3G should work with Wind however, since they are on the 2100Mhz HSPDA band.

lol 512MB :P I would have thought that the phone had more internal memory, haha. Post some screenshots :P

512MB is fine, just stick in a 16GB or 32GB micro SD card and you are set.

Very nice phone - that's some amazing screen resolution right there - my iPhone isn't even close!

My two choices right now are actually the Nexus One (because of an unlocked bootloader and ease of upgrade to Froyo) or the HTC Desire (slightly harder to upgrade to 2.2, but after rooting it there shouldn't be any problems anyway)

Nexus One would be the way I would go in Canada, at least you can use the 3G. But since this is HK, the Desire was the way to go.

The HTC Desire is the right choice IMO. It's quite a powerful cell phone that packs a lot of hardware punch under the hood. I think it lacks a bit in style and sleekness, and in the end the question is: But does it impress girls?

See, the same can be applied towards the iPhone. It doesn't impress girls or at least it hasn't quite worked out well for you yet.

Currently it is running 2.1, Froyo should be out for the Desire in June. No point in putting experimental builds on a phone, want my phone to actually work when I need it to haha.

Not exactly stunning but it's a camera on a phone. Here is a sample picture I took at Sum Shui Bo.

Apparently the next update will include Android 2.2 and shooting of 720p video.

*Sham Shui Bo, FYI. :P I am resident editing nazi. :P

That photo looks very acceptable, especially for a phone camera. And 720p video? :P Sign me up!

[off topic: haha after reading about Sham Shui Bo's computer stores, especially the Golden Computer Centre, I feel the urge to buy an airline ticket to Hong Kong ASAP  Do those shops have proper warranties, BTW?]

Yeah, they usually cover 14-30 days then the warranty goes directly back to manufacturer. No different than here, but you can haggle and tax free. The tax free along goes a long way for me 0% vs 12% on top. I was thinking of picking up some Maximos or Vmodas here too. 12% of savings goes a long way.
