A few weeks ago, Bill C-32 was passed, which now makes it illegal to circumvent DRM. So no more ripping CD's/DVD's with DRM even if you own it. I sent a letter to my MP using a form at http://www.ccer.ca/s...-canadian-dmca/. You should too. It was really easy to fill out.

Generally speaking, it provides legal protection for service providers whose customers have used their services to host copyright infringed material. However, that's about the only positive thing IMO -- the whole "copyright reform" basically strips consumers of fair use and for personal purposes. Way to go, Canada.

"Copyright reform" usually means more money to Lobbyists and Politicians and rip off consumers like DCMA act of 1998 in the US of A.

Basically, I wouldn't be as mad if the money was being put back into the content publishers and not into some governmental or other corporate body that doesn't deserve the money. Just take a look at RIAA, how much have they paid to artists vs. how much the artists have paid them to "Protect their artwork". :P

When they started taxing blank media for no apparent reason, I thought we were ENTITLED to do this :P But either way, it's not like any money is going to the artists anyway (Not to mention WHO should get it), it's all a scam just like RIAA.
