So yesterday, the chc and I tried to reinstall DD-WRT on my WRT610N V1, unfortunately we managed to brick it. Apparently we had used generic firmware instead of the WRT610N specific one. Took us quite a while but we found an unbricking solutions.

Quote

- plug power in
- wait 1-2s
- press reset button
- keep pressing for 5s
- open your browser at 192.168.1.1
- upload new firmware

Within the short 30s or so time frame we had to quickly upload the firmware that was specifically made for the WRT610N, then we waited 5 minutes and did a 30/30/30 or hard reset. After that we logged in and it all worked. We had successfully unbricked our WRT610N. Hope this helps anyone in the future if theirs bricks as well.

The weird thing is that it boots fine on first run, but then it keeps crashing. The only way to save it is to boot into maintenance mode as aforementioned, and then upload the firmware ASAP before it crashes. It was kind of bad, but it all worked out in the end with a great router. :D

I had one good flash going a few months back, but I tried to reupdate it once and boom, I managed to brick it sort of. The first time I just reuploaded original firmware back in. Second time the brick kept crashing the router, so I thought I would write a guide on the harder to fix problem.

Yes - might come in handy if I bricked my router one day. Any changes in new build? My router still reboots once a day.

From DD-WRT wiki WRT610N Recovery

Quote

On occasion, the recovery method will not accept a new dd-wrt image. Download the latest official WRT610N firmware from linksys and flash it back to the router via recovery method. Once the router is back online and you can navigate to the web gui and reflash dd-wrt to the router.

Welcome to APH :)

Just a note on this topic, I recently flashed a WRT160N V3 for a friend. I couldn't get it to flash in recovery mode as the guide suggests, so flashing it in the normal web GUI has no adverse outcomes.

Haha, just to add to this topic -- I accidentally bricked my WRT610N as well :S Flashed it with the wrong firmware, since I forgot I wasn't supposed to flash with the firmware listed on the router database. However, in the short 30 seconds I've had in uploading the firmware in Management Mode, I kept getting this error:

Quote

Upgrade Fail or Upgrade not Finished!

To solve this problem, I tried flashing it with this file:

dd-wrt.v24-13577_mini_usb_ftp_wrt610n

After that, the router boots and is stable, so I uploaded the following firmware version:

DD-WRT v24-sp2 (05/17/11) mega - build 17084M NEWD-2 K2.6 Eko

Everything works now :D

Where do you get that? I only see mega generic on the DD-WRT page and I don't want to brick it.

Just remember the router database should never replace the Wiki. Weird, but true.

You can download the "generic" ones here:
