Windows 7 should be quite scalable - whats your computer specs that don't run 7?

As long as your PC has a semi decent processor and at least 2GB of ram, you should be good for it.

Oh heck, even 1GB of RAM would do. It's not much about the OS anymore. When XP came out, it ran fine on like 64MB of RAM, but nowadays what the heck can you do with it :S

The two media pc's will run 7, but something strange happens shortly after it gets to the desktop. It's good for maybe 1 min, but then once you try to do anything it goes to a black screen. Clean install (just Win7 x86 HP), doesn't matter if I install drivers from WU or the manufacturer.

Both machines are similar: AMD XP 2800/3000, AsRock K751/MSI MS-7047 Mobo, 1Gb DDR-333/400, GeForce FX5500/7800

It's no big deal though, they're just entertainment (movie/TV episodes and streaming audio) machines, which they both do fine at.

That's weird... it's nothing more than an x86 machine. Does it happen with any other operating system? What chipset drivers are you using?

Yep, same issue with Vista. The Asrock is a SiS and used the native Win7/Vista ones because there are none on the Asrock/Sis site. The MSI is a VIA KT880 tried using both native and the VIA Hyperion Pro 5.24A, no dice. Thought it might be the nVidia drivers, but no difference using the native or the latest ones for each card right from nVidia.

It's bizarre, but XP works fine on them for what they're used for.

I am not familiar with those IT guy you familiar with, seems like they are afraid of changes

Most IT people are against change, anyway.

I think Vista was a fine OS since SP1 though. Windows 7 is basically Windows Vista R2.
