Microsoft has announced that it is bringing back its famous flight simulator offering, 18 months after it shut down the studio responsible for the games over the last 28 years.

In a pre-Gamescom announcement, the Redmond based company has confirmed that it is bringing back the franchise that has been so popular over the last 3 decades.

But don't get too excited, run out of the room and don your flight jacket just yet, as Microsoft Game Studios has only said that it is starting internal development of “Microsoft Flight,” which as you might have gathered, will be a new Windows exclusive.

"Microsoft Flight will bring a new perspective to the long-standing genre, welcoming everyone, including long-time fans, to experience the magic of flight", claimed Microsoft in a statement about the new project.

A teaser of the future of Flight on the Windows-based PC is available at http://www.microsoft.com/games/flight although don't expect to see much. It's really just a biplane flying over water for the time being.

As for when Microsoft Flight will be landing in a shop near you, Microsoft isn't currently saying.

I haven't been following it much, but it looks very promising. Previous iterations of Microsoft Flight Simulator (Since the 95 days) were a lot of fun. It's just that later iterations were a bit complex in operation for noobs like me, considering how I am not really the type of airplane enthusiast to learn all those controls even for a computer game. As they have said to better accommodate novice players, I think it can get more people addicted to it. :P

It's a lot more fun if you don't use Keyboard/Mouse.
