Today marks the first year since RTM of Windows 7, IMO one of the best operating systems Microsoft has ever made. In a related news, Windows XP is finally dead. About time!

Quote

Just a reminder that - as announced in April 2008 - as of October 22, 2010, OEMs will no longer be able to pre-install Windows XP Home on new netbook PCs. However for a majority of our customers, they may not notice much change; many PC makers have already been actively manufacturing and selling a broad set of Windows 7 netbooks since Windows 7 released in October, 2009. In fact, according to NPD’s Retail Tracking Service, by April 2010, 81% of netbook units sold at retail in the US came with Windows 7 pre-installed.

I would also like to remind people who are still running Windows XP that as of July 13th, 2010, Windows XP SP2 will also reach the end of support. You will need to install the latest service pack available (Windows XP Service Pack 3) via the Microsoft Update website or look at moving to Windows 7 to be running a supported version of Windows. Support for Windows XP Service Pack 3 will continue through April 2014.

I like how Windows XP SP3 will still go till 2014, that is a 12 year old OS at that point.

People like IT "pros" need to get off the XP bandwagon and move on with Life. Windows 7 is truly one of the best os and XP has been around for way too Long.

I can understand XP for a netbook, low powered PC or embedded systems, but seriously Windows 7 can run on the netbook quite well.

Windows 7 is quite a scalable OS - I don't see why IT pros like BB said are so obsessed with XP. Windows 7 is vastly superior in every way - makes XP look dated and lacking, well because it is, it's been around since 2001.

Truer words have never been said. Windows XP was good, but it's been around for way too long. That is actually one of the problems associated with it as well. The jump from XP to Vista was kind of large, and people needed more time to adjust. Windows 7 is practically Vista R2, and it's hailed as the best OS (Which it rightfully is) since whatever, while Windows Vista takes all the heat. Most people don't realize 90% of it is the same thing.
