Anyone use TrueCrypt on your laptops for full disk encryption? How's performance?

I run it on my laptop - shouldn't affect Performance much as long as you have a fast CPU.

I think people has done tests and shows that it has negligible read/write difference as far as performance is concerned. However, in order to execute the algorithms it will require some more processing horsepower. Even if you do a FDE it shouldn't be too bad. If you have a Sandforce SSD you can always enable hardware 128-bit or 256-bit AES.

Oh thanks - yes I travel a lot, don't want anything bad to happen if my laptops stolen.

I've used TrueCrypt 7.0a for about a year now to secure my sensitive information. I've only encrypted a non-system partition as of now, but for the purpose of storing sensitive files the performance hit is unnoticeable. Took a bit of time to set up, but in the end, all worth it.

Yeah, plausible deniability is a great feature -- but most of us probably don't need that :P
