Just as it predicted last month, Samsung has shipped 10 million units of its flagship phone, the Galaxy S III.

"It appears that [accumulated sales have] exceeded 10 million units," said JK Shin, mobile chief of the South Korean company, according to Yonhap News Agency.

Samsung said it expected the Galaxy S III to reach the 10-million mark in late June, about a month after the phone released first in Europe and the Middle East.

Since then, the phone has been making its debut in other parts of the world.

The Galaxy S III landed in the U.S. around mid-June through T-Mobile and Sprint, and then completed its release on the four major U.S. networks when it began selling through Verizon and AT&T earlier this month.

The phone's next big date is set for July 29, when a red version of the Galaxy S III is scheduled to launch exclusively through AT&T.

For the most part, the 4.8-inch-screen phone, which runs on Android Ice Cream Sandwich, sells for about $200 for a 16 GB version and $250 for 32 GB, both with a two-year contract.

The Samsung Galaxy S III is expected to surpass its predecessors in sales. InformationWeek says 20 million units of the Samsung Galaxy S sold in 2010 and 30 million units of the Samsung Galaxy S II sold last year.

That's pretty crazy. I think Samsung has done a great job at marketing good hardware though. Not exactly an Android fan (Not planning to get one either), but they sure have a good achievement on their hands (Y)

I'm impressed. Also, the Galaxy series is outselling the iPhone 2:1 :D

Lumia is a great phone as well, but Nokia in general isn't doing as well as Samsung is.

Samsung has much better marketing and a wider range of phones. Unfortunate Nokia only has about 3 phones and 1 OS, which is really good, but they need to kick it up.

Samsung has more money and more marketing.
