Please no unrelated posts, especially that of who he doesn't know what hes talking about, because the last post would be read and nobody will care about the main topic anymore.

I was browsing the internet and after I clicked a link, the screen went all low-bit colored. Few seconds later the monitor went all black, with the top left 'Analog' 'Digital' flipping back and forth. I immediately turned it off, went to get a drink (apprx 30 seconds) and turned the computer back on. Ok , I felt relief when I saw the "Shuttle" logo (my last gfx problem didn't display anything). The Windows XP logo appeared, with the blue bar moving. Ok that was it. The next screen showed the cursor only. No blue background. Then after the screen went black with the 'Analog' 'Digital' thing flipping back and forth. The screen lit up again, but only with the blue background, and the cursor. This is where I stopped attempting to re boot it. I opened up the case, and there were no signs of 'overheating problems due to dust cloggage'. I consulted with APH PC Support, and the support person said 'dude MSI sux go get ATI'.

After 2 days of no computer, just laptop, I just went to boot up the computer. The HD was running fine, noisy as usual, the fans maxed out, and the blue log in screen popped up. I thought the previous crashes were temporary. As I felt reliefed, I played CS as usual. Fps at 80< in stock maps, everything was fine. UNTIL, I typed in 'bot_pistols_only 1' in my console, to test couple of pistol maps. Right when I hit 'enter', the same sound was running over and over again, and the whole comp basically froze, with the HD led flickering on and off. Ok what the hey now, I turned off the comp and went to eat something. When I came back, after rebooting the comp, the log on screen was achieved after many 'Analog' 'Digital' flipping and mice flickering. Once I logged on, I opened up the Steam menu, but the place wher ethe Steam menu was supposed to be, was covered with what looked like smujged text. So I waited, the screen went black, lit up, went black, and when it lit up it displayed the whole menu. I double clicked CS, and it worked fine. Until I logged onto a server, when it was just about to begin the round. What was supposed to be 'ok team lets go', was substitued with a 'blip blip blip' accompanied with a yellow/green/white flicker screen with no text. It seemed like vertical and horizontal align was out of alignment. When the bleeping finished, the screen went back to the CS screen, with me dead on the ground. This happened so many times until I decided to quit the program and run a memory test. But after I turned the game off, the screen went blank again! Gosh its so annoying. I opened up my computer, all fans were running fine with no apparent dust build up. I'm now doubting if it is a gfx card problem, since my last problem had corrupted images with no apparent prelude. Maybe my cpu went on fire for rebooting it so many times while running?

What would you recommend? I'm looking for price over performance, around 3:2 priority ratio.

Ajschwab, let me tell you something. Not a card, yes, not a single card in the market today, whether a X1800XT or 7800GTX 512 would be ready to run all Vista effects. Just buy a Sapphire X800GTO˛ and softmod it to a X850XT with a bit of pipeline unlocking and overclocking. 100% success rate with no cooling modification. (You can put some AS5 on it if you like)

Well then look like nVidia and ATI will be developing 800MHz cards b4 Vista comes out with 700 MB of RAM. Also price for computers are about to rise by the time Vista comes out.

What does that prove? Nothing. OMG its a 32 pipe card, OMG its 1GHZ core... OMG it has 24 pixel shaders... so what. DX10 is likely to come out before Vista (Or at the time) Which means that none of the cards today will be able to run Vista effects (All). Also, graphics moves really fast in a year. One year ago it's the X850XT days. Now its the 7800GTX 512 days...

At school he said 'Get 7800GTX, its better.' The next day hes like 'get an X800XL and soft mod it,' and the day after hes like 'get nVidia from eVGA.'
