From DailyTech: A new NVIDIA Shield update has become available starting this month, which has updates in NVIDIA GameStream, Gamepad Mapper and more.
The April 2014 Software Update for NVIDIA Shield is available now, and if you don't have a Shield, you can pick one up for $50 cheaper through the end of April.
NVIDIA Shield is a handheld game console that runs Android and allows users to play PC games on the go. It's the first device to use NVIDIA's Tegra 4 processor.
It also features a flip-up 30 mm (5-inch) touchscreen display with 1280x720 pixel resolution and a built-in controller. It was released July 31, 2013.
The April update allows any supported PC game to be played on Shield, expanding to new and popular titles like "Titanfall" via NVIDIA GameStream.
Console Mode is now keyboard and mouse compatible via support for Bluetooth mice and keyboards. This allows for 1080p, 60 frames per second HDTV gaming in titles like "League of Legends," "Diablo III," and "Civilization V." Gamers can now play a PC or Android game on a big-screen HDTV at 60 frames per second and use a Bluetooth gamepad.
Gamepad Mapper -- which allows gamers to play Android games using the controller -- received a few tweaks as well, such as a quick-access shortcut, which can be used when holding down the illuminated NVIDIA button.
Another key point in the update is the new TegraZone, which is the home screen where users can find their PC and Android games, settings and the TegraZone store. The update makes this info more accessible and brings a news feed and notification system into the mix.
If you have a Shield, get the update by goingto Settings > About SHIELD > System Updates, and click "Check Now."
If you don't have a Shield, you can grab one for $199 until the end of April. Otherwise, it's $249 regular price.
