Verizon Wireless to Receive Exclusive HTC One (M8) for Windows Smartphone

From DailyTech: If you’re looking for a bit of variety in Windows Phone offerings, there are plenty to choose from — if you don’t mind most of them being from Nokia. While Nokia does provide a full range of Windows Phone 8.x-based smartphones that run from the budget-minded to the high-end, it would be nice to see other manufacturers offer their hardware for Microsoft’s third-placing smartphone operating system.

According to reports from Engadget and WP Central, HTC will soon be offering a version of its HTC One (M8) on Verizon Wireless that will run Windows Phone 8.1. However, the device will be saddled with the unfortunate name of HTC One (M8) for Windows. Regardless of how ridiculous the name is, you can’t argue with the hardware specs, which means that we’ll see a 1080p display, Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM, BoomSound speakers, and the spiffy metal unibody design.

Engadget also reports that while the HTC One (M8) for Windows won’t support Voice Over LTE (VoLTE) at launch, it will be enabled via Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1.

WP Central suggests that the smartphone will launch on August 21 with an off-contract price of around $600. Those that signup for a two-year contract will be able to secure the phone for $199.
