From DailyTech: Microsoft wants everyone to mark their calendars for September 30; that is the day that the Redmond, Washington-based company plans to unveil the next generation of Windows (which we’ve been calling Windows 9 for now).
The Verge first tipped the September 30 date late last month and with today’s confirmation of that date comes word Joe Belfiore (Corporate Vice President, Operating Systems Group) and Terry Myerson (Executive Vice President of Operating Systems) will head the event.
A “Technical Preview” of Windows 9 is expected to be made available the same day as the event or shortly after, while the official launch is said to occur in Spring 2015 according to Microsoft watcher Mary Jo Foley.
Some of the features that will be included with Windows 9 include Cortana integration (already a popular feature in Windows Phone 8.1), a new Start Menu, a unified Notification Center, and support for Virtual Desktops. There are also reports that Microsoft could ditch the Charms bar on desktop PCs altogether or at least significantly redesign how the interface is presented to users.
