Hack of Sony Pictures Indicates Employees Were Pirating Blu-Rays

From DailyTech: Back in 2011 Sony Corp. (TYO:6758) was facing the onslaught of Lulzsec, a small, tightly-knit group of hackers. The hack began with the breach of the PlayStation Network (PSN) maintained by Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC (SCEA) and the Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) gaming network. Millions of account logins were stolen, forcing Sony to carry out a costly overhaul and rebuilding process of its gaming networks.

Somewhat lost amidst the chaos was a smaller hack of Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE), in which LulzSec claimed to have stolen 1 million user credentials (SPE disputed this, saying the true number was closer to 38,000). Well, that hack is back in focus now, after a fresh intrusion at SPE, which reportedly has compromise the company's internal networks, forcing a cleanup.

The latest intrusion comes courtesy of a hacker or hackers calling themself/themselves "GOP", short for "Guardians of Peace". Their presence was felt via defacements of employee workstations and reportedly via hijacking of several Twitter Inc. (TWTR) feeds for such movies as Stomp The Yard, Soul Surfer, and Starship Troopers.

While at least one reporter lofted the possibility that the hack is fake -- some Machavellian plot on the part of Sony, if true -- the amount of data readily available (200 MB+) suggests otherwise.
