Dell Mini 3 Hits AT&T as Dell Aero

From DailyTech: AT&T stayed out of the Android smartphone game for a long time. The move was likely to prevent users that might otherwise buy an iPhone from grabbing up an Android handset instead. The delay in offering Android handsets could also be fear on AT&T's part that another popular smartphone option could further cripple its network.

Dell has been working on smartphones for a while now and in January during CES, it was announced that the Android Mini 3 handset would be coming to the AT&T network. At the time the announcement was made the only date offered was the first half of 2010. AT&T has now announced that the Dell Mini 3 is coming to the AT&T network and is now dubbed the Dell Aero smartphone.

The device is described as the lightest Android smartphone around. The device offers a 5-megapixel camera that can share images taken on Flickr, Facebook, Picassa, YouTube, and TwitPic. The handset uses a 3.5-inch touchscreen with a 360 x 640 resolution. It is interesting to note that the Mini 3 was originally slated to have a 3.2-megapixel camera.

The handset will feature links to social networks integrated right out of the box for fast access to Facebook and more. The handset supports Flash Lite content and can connect to the AT&T WiFi Hot Spot network with 20,000 access points. The handset also has GPS integrated. Pricing for the handset has not been announced at this time and the launch date is only pegged as "coming soon."
