Parts Suppliers Can't Keep Up With iPad Demand

From DailyTech: LG Display's Chief Executive Kwon Young-soo announced Thursday that the company could not meet all of the order's for Apple's iPad display due to the increasing demand for these devices.

Apple sold approximately 3.27 million iPads through the end of their latest financial quarter. This has exceeded even Apple's wildest expectations, and due to this kind of demand, Apple is thinking through some production measures, saying that increased production of the iPad products might be a solution even though LG is running "at full capacity."

"We are considering increasing production lines for iPad products but overall supply is likely to remain tight until next year," said Young-soo.

When the iPad first launched in April of this year, Apple decided to delay the international launch of the product by one month due to strong demand, and now, some analysts believe that would be the right thing to do at this point as well. But regardless of the lack of LG displays, Apple announced that they would still release the iPad in nine more countries as soon as this Friday in order to achieve their goal of providing the device to these countries by the end of July.

"Demand (from Apple) keeps growing and we can't meet it all," said Young-soo. "Apple may have to delay launches of the iPad for some countries due to tight component supplies and strong demand."
