Asus Readies Mainboard with ATI’s and Nvidia’s Multi-GPU Support

From X-bit Labs: Perhaps, Nvidia Corp. does not want to run its SLI multi-GPU configurations on platforms developed by its rivals, whereas ATI, graphics product group of Advanced Micro Devices, does want to promote its CrossFire multi-GPU tech. No matter what, Asustek Computer readies a mainboard that supports SLI and CrossFire.

At a news conference in Berlin, Germany, Asustek Computer unveiled its mainboard that supports both Nvidia SLI and ATI CrossFire multi-GPU technology. The mainboard belongs to Asus’ Republic of Gamers series and probably supports latest microprocessors from Intel Corp., which has been producing the best CPUs for gaming for several years now.

Since Nvidia wants mainboard makers to use its chipsets to enable SLI or wants them to install a special nForce hub to permit SLI, whereas ATI CrossFire works on chipsets by AMD or Intel, it is highly likely that the mainboard features a special chip to allow SLI.

AMD or Nvidia did not comment on the news-story.
