Win 7 Upgrade Anytime, Family Pack Pricing

From Tom's Hardware: Microsoft's Brandon LeBlanc updated the official Windows Blog with a new post detailing the Windows Anytime Upgrade and Family Pack pricing. As LeBlanc points out, most consumers purchase new PCs with a preinstalled version that suits their needs, however over time those needs may change, hence Microsoft's Anytime Upgrade plan. Here's the pricing list, indicating the cost of upgrading from one version of Windows 7 to another:

* Windows 7 Starter to Windows 7 Home Premium: $79.99
* Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional: $89.99
* Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Ultimate: $139.99

"After Windows 7 is released to market on October 22nd, you will be able to buy a retail package that contains an upgrade key at a store near you for any of the 3 paths I highlighted above," LeBlanc wrote. "If you live in Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK or the US (13 countries) – you will be able to purchase the upgrade from Microsoft online directly within Windows 7."

In addition to the Anytime Upgrade plan, LeBlanc briefly mentioned the Windows 7 Family Pack as well, reminding consumers that this edition can be installed on three PCs when its released on October 22. As for pricing, the Windows 7 Family Pack will cost $149.99 for three licenses. He did not say whether consumers could or could not purchase additional licenses.
