ADATA DashDrive Elite UE700 64GB Review (Page 8 of 8)

Page 8 - Conclusion

A little over two years ago, we found out a formula for success does not necessarily equate to a winner in real life. In the Cooler Master Silencio 550 and Lian Li PC-Z60 reviews, we have found out the right formula with the wrong values can turn a good idea into a bad product, but the wrong ideas with the right execution can make something for the better. Of course, neither is an ideal scenario. The ideal scenario would be a perfect combination of the right elements with the right design. So where does the ADATA DashDrive Elite UE700 64GB stand? The company promises a good looking USB flash drive with a large storage capacity and high performance. In reality, it delivers. Combining a slim and light form factor and a bit of visual excitement, the DashDrive Elite is also surprisingly fast in the benchmarks. When I say "fast", I do not mean winning drag races purely in the context of peak values. Not only does it show off a very commendable top speed, its ATTO performance curve is very desirable; especially with its superior small file I/O performance against comparable drives in its class. Needless to say, it benchmarks very well in almost every test we have put it through. I am also a big fan of its capless design. Of course, there are some shortcomings that I would like to see addressed. Firstly, the slider mechanism is pretty tight, and the switch may be hard to use for people with large fingers. Secondly, the UE700 cannot accommodate traditional keyrings, so you won't be able to attach it to your keychain if so desired. Thirdly, its maximum input/output per second is a little bit lower than the competition, which may be a result of lower performing flash chips. At the end of the day, what makes the ADATA DashDrive Elite UE700 64GB right is significantly greater than what that makes it not. For under $70 at press time, the ADATA DashDrive Elite UE700 64GB is an excellent USB 3.0 storage device for a reasonable price.
