OCZ Trion 100 480GB Review (Page 11 of 11)

Page 11 - Conclusion

If you need some solid reasons to drive to the store and Trion this product, then I am going to state it now: The OCZ Trion 100 480GB is an SSD with strong read performance for consumer based workloads. Puns aside (I promised my colleague Aaron Lai to plug it into this review somehow, so here it is), from our PCMark Vantage application performance benchmark to PassMark PerformanceTest 8.0 simulated workloads, the latest drive marketed under the OCZ brand delivers. The Trion 100 uses triple level cell (TLC) memory, but with rated endurance of 120TB for the 480GB variant we are reviewing today, there is nothing you will need to worry about. And if there is anything you would like to worry about, the Trion 100 comes with a class leading 3-year ShieldPlus warranty. This means OCZ will replace your defective drive with a brand new one, and provide shipping both ways -- no original purchase receipt required -- completely free of charge. No other manufacturer in the market offers such warranty for a budget drive. Of course, there are a few shortcomings with the OCZ Trion 100 480GB. It is comparatively slow in write performance, and this is especially evident in our Crystal Disk Mark results. Also, in the PCMark 8 Storage Consistency Test, its results are a notch lower compared to other budget drives like the Crucial BX100 500GB. For about $160 at press time, there are a number of strong competitors in that range. The Crucial BX100 500GB is $150, Crucial MX200 500GB is $175, Patriot Ignite 480GB is $170, and SanDisk Ultra II 480GB is $170. The OCZ Trion 100 480GB, priced at the lower end of the spectrum, comes with the best warranty at the expense of write speed. If this matches up with your preference priority in making your next purchase, then the OCZ Trion 100 480GB is worth trying on.

Since April 30, 2007, Number Ratings have been dropped for all CPUs, motherboards, RAM, SSD/HDDs, and graphics cards. This is to ensure the most appropriate ratings are reflected without the inherent limits of using numbers. Everything else will continue using the Number Rating System.
