Patriot Viper 4 PC4-22400 2x8GB Review (Page 10 of 10)

Page 10 - Overclocking and Conclusion

Like the Liberal Party of Canada's sweeping victory in Monday election, the Patriot Viper 4 PC4-22400 2x8GB dual channel kit's performance in our graphs is an expected outcome. And why should we expect anything else? A DDR4-2800 16-18-18-36 kit is a DDR4-2800 16-18-18-36 kit. In a comparison test filled with modules ranging from DDR4-2666 to DDR4-3200, the Patriot Viper 4 PC4-22400 2x8GB is exactly where it should be, and this is not a bad thing. I think the question to answer at this point is its overclocking potential. With a modest clock speed and designed to operate at 1.2V, is there any room for overclocking if we bumped the voltage to 1.35V? The short answer, unfortunately, is 'no'. Playing around with the voltage brought me nothing, and neither did relaxing the timings. Now that we know everything we need to know on the performance side of things, where does the Patriot Viper 4 PC4-22400 2x8GB stand? Patriot has always been known to build their modules with high quality components, and from my experience, along with American manufacturers like Kingston, I am least likely to run into issues with their products. In fact, as I type away this review on my desktop computer, I am still using the rock solid Patriot Viper 3 Low Profile PC3-17000 4x8GB kit I reviewed in late 2013. In case anything goes wrong, the Viper 4 is backed by the company's lifetime warranty, so I would not worry too much about there. With regards to compatibility, the medium profile heatspreader should not interfere with your CPU cooler, but in case it does, the offending strip at the top can be easily removed by two screws without the need to disassemble anything else. All these factors come together for a compelling case. If you can pick the Patriot Viper 4 PC4-22400 2x8GB up at a competitive price, and reliability and compatibility are your top priorities, this dual channel kit is an excellent choice for your next build.
