About PCMark Vantage

PCMark Vantage is a PC benchmark suite designed for Windows Vista offering one-click simplicity for casual users and detailed, professional grade testing for industry, press and enthusiasts.

A PCMark score is a measure of your computer’s performance across a variety of common tasks such as viewing and editing photos, video, music and other media, gaming, communications, productivity and security.

From desktops and laptops to workstations and gaming rigs, by comparing your PCMark Vantage score with other similar systems you can find the hardware and software bottlenecks that stop you getting more from your PC.

PCMark Vantage aims to shed a little more insight into real life performance of your computer hardware by semi-synthetic means -- and all insight is good, right? The great thing about standardized tests is anyone can repeat them and get very similar results, given identical hardware. Well, I am not going to narrate the stuff above in detail, because we all know graphs are there for a very good reason. Just to give you a bit of insight if you are too lazy to go through all nine comparisons, the SanDisk Ultra II 240GB performed exceptionally well against some of the best drives in the industry. In fact, it took home the highest overall score. PCMark Vantage uses some pretty simple simulations, so it is pretty optimized for single disks with relatively fast linear read (It does funny things when you got a RAID array though). The SanDisk Ultra II 240GB easily beat the OCZ ARC 100 240GB in every single category, and traded blows with the Crucial MX100 256GB repeatedly. The MX100 won five out of eight comparisons -- some by very small margins -- and the Ultra II won the remaining, with some examples having pretty large gaps.
