About PCMark Vantage

PCMark Vantage is a PC benchmark suite designed for Windows Vista offering one-click simplicity for casual users and detailed, professional grade testing for industry, press and enthusiasts.

A PCMark score is a measure of your computer’s performance across a variety of common tasks such as viewing and editing photos, video, music and other media, gaming, communications, productivity and security.

From desktops and laptops to workstations and gaming rigs, by comparing your PCMark Vantage score with other similar systems you can find the hardware and software bottlenecks that stop you getting more from your PC.

PCMark Vantage is another real-to-life performance application, albeit in a semi-synthetic means. The great thing about standardized tests is anyone can repeat them and get very similar results, given identical hardware. You can look at all the graphs above, but the overall story of the Toshiba OCZ TL100 240GB is not a happy one. Similar to the PassMark PerformanceTest 8.0 results, the numbers in these real life performance tests are quite a bit lower than its competitors. Compared to the OCZ Trion 100, OCZ Trion 150, Kingston SSDNow UV400, and the Crucial BX100, the final numbers are quite a ways behind. It should be noted this is the smallest drive capacity compared to all of the others, but personally I think the lack of DRAM inside is the real killer. Digging into the results, most of the numbers were on par, until it went to the media tests such as Photo Import, Video Editing, and Windows Media Center. The TL100 240GB's results fell quite behind in these tests, adversely affecting the overall score. It seems while the Toshiba OCZ TL100 240GB was competitive enough in the synthetic tests, the real world ones are quite a bit more challenging for this drive, revealing a less than ideal side to the TL100.
