About AIDA64 Engineer

AIDA64 Engineer has a hardware detection engine unrivaled in its class. It provides detailed information about installed software and offers diagnostic functions and support for overclocking. As it is monitoring sensors in real time, it can gather accurate voltage, temperature and fan speed readings, while its diagnostic functions help detect and prevent hardware issues. It also offers a couple of benchmarks for measuring the performance of individual hardware components or the whole system. It is compatible with all 32-bit and 64-bit Windows editions, including Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016.

Since our storage review benchmark results are presented in alphabetical order, first up on the list are results from one of our favorite benchmarking programs, AIDA64 Engineer. Just to note, AIDA64 Engineer is a full synthetic benchmark. Unlike full synthetic motor oil, this usually does not always carry a good connotation. While it is not a representation of real life performance (Such as how fast you can copy movies to your drive), it does provide valuable insight into performance variation between drives from different manufacturers. As you can see in our graphs above, the latest 5,400 RPM Western Digital Red delivered great performance in the linear read segment; being relatively comparable to the 6TB model, and a good chunk faster than the 4TB model. It clocked in at 181.2MB/s in the beginning of the drive, 149.4MB/s in the middle, and finishing with 89.7MB/s in the end. Unsurprisingly, the 8TB WD Red also a comparable random access time to the 6TB model at 15.27ms. The 8TB WD Red was quite a bit slower than the Seagate NAS HDD ST8000VN0002 8TB, but the NAS HDD is a 7,200RPM drive.
