"Corporate Pigs made me DUI"

Recommended Posts

I thought I'd bring this up: in my winter driving class, we watched a video on DUI. A person who was convicted of DUI and is now in a wheel chair, had the audacity to say that "the beer corporations MAKE YOU DRINK AND DRIVE. They WANT YOU TO GET DRUNK and so they can STEAL YOUR MONEY WHILE YOU DUI." The movie clip then showed a beer advertisement where some drunk men squirted beer on their female accomplices. There were no cars, just some people having a good time.

I personally do not condone the drinking of alcohol exactly as the Bible says, but some people make the choice to have fun and drink. Beer corporations are exercising this right by providing people with such means to do so, and they may entice people to get drunk by using sexist ads, and promote drinking as a "cool" thing to do, but I fail to see what that has to do with making people break the law.

I don't know if it's his culture, or if he had liberal neo-socialist, anti-corporation parents to make him think like that, but I think such attitude, even if it's still marginalised, is a dangerous precedent for Western irresponsibility to come.

The truth is the guy is simply too weak to face the consequences of his own actions, therefore finding something to blame his wrongdoings on. The thing is that he is exercising his own free will to drink and drive under influence of alcohol -- it's nobody's fault but his own. I probably saw the video before, but I don't quite remember since it was a long time ago. :P

+1

There's really nothing wrong with drinking, but if you take it too far, and then out of your own stupidity decide to f*ck it up even more and drive while under the influence, it's really no one else's fault. I mean, sure the companies might advertise, but they don't promote drunk driving. They promote consumption of their product, that's all. And they depict it in a fun way so that others will want to purchase and consume their product, so like chc said, it's really no one's fault that he went ahead and drove while drunk. I think he should at least have the balls to admit it was his fault, then he might have gotten a little bit of respect from me.

The basic point of the videos is "Don't drink and drive, it's your choice" but I think this defeated the purpose of the driver's ed course :P
