Missing MAS flight MH370

Recommended Posts

This is a sticky situation considering the plane is not found and everything is routine. Hopefully the plane can be found soon and the black box gives more insight.

It's still a mystery. It's a week in already too. Reports say it could have flown for 4 hours after the transponder shut off :S

Been kinda following this story elsewhere, it's strange to say the least.

Also there is all sorts of BS (we'll call it speculation) being reported by the media and the Malaysian officials don't seem to have a f'ing clue about anything either.

I understand the families of those missing want answers, but if you don't have them, just be honest and say we don't have any solid info yet.

Of course this has all the tin foil hatters/conspiracy nuts in a frenzy, the really crazy part is they might be right about this one. :whistling:

I'm sure there will be a logical explanation (hijack, mechanical malfunction, pilot error or something) and parts of/or the whole plane found in the end, but who knows at this point. Over one week later nothing really solid one way or the other.

My understanding is the Malaysian official's story is quite consistent with theories put out by the US and other countries. Considering if they actually crashed the plane at or near its last known location, I don't think it's too hard to locate at least SOME debris. I think Malaysia is either extremely incompetent or just trying to cover up in a very futile manner.

That's the thing, most US news seem to be trying to put their "theory" as facts (just to say they were first if it actually pans out to be true). Are they even sure which direction it was heading? First it was one way, then another and now yet another.

I know the ocean is quite vast (especially in that area of the world), but a plane that large should leave some trace if it went down in the water, but to find that trace you kinda need to be looking in the right area.

The whole story sounds fishy (no pun intended) to me. There was both civilian and military radar coverage in that area. One or the other didn't notice/care about a object off course heading into their air space that didn't respond to/acknowledge the call from the station? No fighter planes sent up to "escort" it somewhere?

Hi CrashGordon,

The news media say it may be 2 direction but yes if intercepted by military radar will probably not let slip undetected. Pilot suicde seems a possible theory.

Yeah if some unidentified object flies into a country's airspace they sure as hell would send some fighter jets to escort or shoot it down. So far no countries reported that, unless it was a preplanned act.

A preplanned act is the latest theory. Reports are saying that about the same time as one ATC (Air Traffic Control) was handing it off to another, that's when the comm/transponders went off and the plane went below radar coverage. That would take some planning and good timing to pull off, but could be done.

The really odd part is if this was a act of terror, why hasn't someone/group claimed responsibility for it? They usually do, because they want others to know who did it.

It's just a bizarre story so far.

Hopefully they find some piece of the plane to confirm the sat images/data. I figured it was most likely a catastrophic failure of some sort, with nothing to do with terrorism/hijacking by anyone including the crew. The fire scenario seems plausible and reasonable, that does explain the rapid change in altitude and the course change.

Looks like it's almost with complete confidence it's in the Indian Ocean. I'm interested to see more investigation as to how it got there, and what brought it there.
