Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 is Reportedly Delayed by Serious Overheating Woes

From DailyTech: Qualcomm, Inc. (QCOM) has positioned itself as the undisputed king of the applications processor (AP) market in recent years. Its chips power most of the best and brightest flagship smartphones on Google Inc.'s (GOOG) Android OS and Microsoft Corp.'s (MSFT) Windows smartphone platforms. Qualcomm's closest rival is Apple, Inc. (AAPL) who makes its own APs for iOS devices. Apple is the second largest AP maker on merits of iOS's substantial market share. But even with Apple included, Qualcomm is still number one in the AP marketplace in terms of sales.

But heavy is the head that wears the crown, according to reports.

Business Korea cites sources close to Qualcomm (high-ranking officials partner OEMs, by the sound of it) as saying that Qualcomm's long-awaited first high-end 64-bit chip, the Snapdragon 810 (MSM8994) is suffering a plethora of issues. The source stated:

"Qualcomm is faced with hard-to-solve problems. The Snapdragon 810 overheats when it reaches a specific voltage. It also slows down owing to problems with the RAM controller connected to the AP. In addition, there is an error in the driver of the Adreno 430 GPU."

Given the severity of the problems and lack of a clear solution, Qualcomm is reportedly telling OEMs to expect delays. The report goes on to state that several OEMs' flagship products may be delayed to H2 2015 due to these woes.
