Canon Debuts PowerShot G12, SX30 IS Digital Cameras

From DailyTech: There has been a lot of action in the digital camera market over the last month or so with many new models debuting from some of the largest makers in the industry. Today Canon has revealed two impressive new point and shoot cameras: the PowerShot G12 and the PowerShot SX30 IS.

The G12 is able to record HD movies in 720p resolution and has a High Sensitivity (HS) setting. The camera also uses the DIGIC 4 Image Processor that has 10-megapixel resolution. The HS setting and the image processor work together to reduce the noise in photos at higher ISO settings.

The G12 also has a HDR scene mode and a full range of scene modes for video recording and still shots. The HDR mode is an setting that works when the camera is mounted on a tripod. With the mode activated a single press of the shutter takes three images at different settings and the images are then combined inside the camera into one image that is higher quality than any one of the images alone.

A control on the front of the G12 allows the user to adjust exposure settings and the camera has a 2.8-inch rear LCD that tilts for Live View shooting. The lens of the G12 has 5x optical zoom and image stabilization for clear shots. The wide-angle lens starts at 28mm. The G12 will ship in October for $499.99.

The SX30 IS is the second of the new Canon offerings unveiled today. The SX30 Is brings new dimension to super zoom with the world's first 35x wide-angle zoom lens. The sensor inside the camera is a 14.1-megapixel unit and it uses the same DIGIC 4 image processor as the G12. The SX30 IS also records 720p resolution video and can use the full 35x zoom range in video and photo modes.
