Cooler Master Storm Ceres 500 Review (Page 4 of 4)

Page 4 - Conclusion

To answer our question posed in the introduction, I can say that the CM Storm Ceres 500 is much improved from the past model. Physically, the design is refined, but conservative. This unassuming design allows users to fit in with both the conservative user and the hardcore enthusiasts. The inclusion of small things like having removable earpieces and a flexible microphone means consumers have more choices when using this device. This is not to mention the entire headset is foldable, so users can take this on-the-go without taking up much space. The overall build, while still made with the same plastic found in the Cooler Master Storm Ceres 400, is better constructed, and does not feel as fragile. When it comes to the sound production, the neutrality of the headset means the Ceres 500 produces an overall balanced sound, covering the bass, midrange, and treble, while giving some roundness for each range. Frequency separation is decent, and layering between the bass, midrange, and treble are smooth and clean. There are still areas the Cooler Master Storm Ceres 500 can be improved. For one the soundstaging of the headset can be improved by adding more direction and depth the sound. The high end of the treble range should be cleaned up and also made fuller. The bass could use a bit more character, in both intensity and fullness. Even though this headset can be used on multiple platforms like the Playstation 3, Playstation 4, and the Xbox 360, I cannot fully recommend it for that use, as it would be a lot more convenient for console gamers to have wireless headsets. Don't get me wrong; this is not a knock against the Ceres 500 -- just a random opinion. Finally, the pressure that is put on the side by the ear cups is noticeable, and can be bothersome after extended periods of use. All in all, being able to package everything they have offered for around $77 USD at press time is amazing. The CM Storm Ceres 500 is so much more than just an iteration of the Ceres 400, and is something Cooler Master should be proud of producing.
