Lian-Li PC-Q07 Review (Page 3 of 4)

Page 3 - Physical Look - Inside

Removing six screws on the Lian-Li PC-Q07's left side panel reveals a relatively simplistic interior. Of which each section we'll look in detail later; we can see at the top is a 5.25" externally accessible bay, at the bottom is a 2.5"/3.5" internal HDD bay, and an array of usual case internal connectors. We can see that a lot of attention to detail has been implemented in this product -- such as the angle reinforcements at the bottom left, precisely finished supporting edges, clean riveting and panel attachments, excellent fit and panel gap, all contribute to its solid construction and design. Its included accessories are placed inside a box and tape to the bottom of the chassis for shipping purposes.

At the back is another full size side panel that covers the entire side of the Lian-Li PC-Q07. Removing six screws disconnects the panel from the main chassis frame. Since the user's mITX motherboard is to be installed on this panel directly, four integrated riser mounts, as we've discussed earlier, are already placed in there for you. And since this panel is entirely removable, we can definitely classify this as a removable motherboard tray.

Four case I/O connectors lead out from behind the power and reset buttons. Each button has a built in LED; where the power button has an integrated blue power LED, and the reset button has a built-in red HDD activity indicator LED. As always, the I/O connectors are clearly labeled for convenience. The cables are also long enough to reach practically anywhere on a motherboard -- generally speaking, it has a very adequate length -- not too short, and not too long. I would be nice if there are cable routing clips on the side of the case interior to improve cabling, however. There's one large self-adhesive plastic cable ring clip included, but it's not quite the kind I personally prefer.

Near the bottom is a USB connector block for two USB ports on the front panel. The pair of cables appear to be long enough to reach standard USB internal connector locations on the motherboard.

We can see multiple sections of mesh openings along each surface on the Lian-Li PC-Q07 in the photo above. Interestingly, pretty much every bit of blank space are opened up to an extent to improve ventilation. The power supply mount is placed directly next to the motherboard location; while an 5.25" drive bay is featured at the top. The bracket is riveted to the side of the chassis, and the front blank pieces can easily be removed since it is just clipped in. Overall, combined with Lian-Li's excellent attention to the structural elements of the case, along with its smart usage of ventilation openings, the structural integrity of the case is not affected to any perceivable extent!

A standard 3.5" internal drive bracket for accommodating storage drives is placed at the bottom center of the Lian-Li PC-Q07. The bracket is attached to the bottom panel via four small screws, and can easily be removed. If you're planning to use a 2.5" drive, it is not even necessary to use the 3.5" bracket, since your 2.5" disk can be attached to the bottom of the chassis directly by four pre-drilled holes. Again, there's tons of ventilation openings all around, and with low power consumption systems, there are no room for case fans, but chances are that this is not necessary either.

Overall, even though the Lian-Li PC-Q07 is a small case, each section is easily accessible regardless of how big your hands are thanks to its excellent design implementation.
