From PC Mag: Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company evacuated one of its new chip factory construction sites in Kaohsiung, Taiwan after an unexploded bomb was found, according to news outlets and a statement from the chip maker.
The bomb has corroded, signifying it may be quite old, and weighs roughly 500 pounds. A contractor reportedly discovered the bomb Nov. 11 at TSMC's Nanzih Technology Industrial Park, which was previously the Kaohsiung Refinery. The oil refinery was closed back in 2015 and sat on about 674 acres of land.
The police were contacted and the military's bomb disposal team was brought in to address the issue. Now, the unexploded bomb is reportedly sitting in a warehouse at a different location.
"Regarding the suspected unexploded ordnance discovered during excavation at TSMC's Kaohsiung site in the morning of Nov. 11, the relevant authorities have examined it and determined there are no safety concerns. The object has been removed, and construction at the site is ongoing and remains on schedule," TSMC tells The Register on Thursday.
