Sony Launches PlayStation 4 in North America, Sets New Sales Record

From X-bit Labs: Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) late last week launched its next generation game console, PlayStation 4 (PS4), in North America. Thanks to a lineup of competitive games, maximum interest from both game developers and end-users, the company managed to sell a record one million PS4 units in just a couple of days of availability.

With unprecedented power, deep social capabilities, and unique second screen features, PS4 demonstrates our unwavering commitment to delivering phenomenal play experiences that will shape the world of games for years to come,” said Andrew House, president and group chief executive officer of Sony Computer Entertainment.

Sony PlayStation 4 arrives with a lineup of over 20 first- and third-party games, including exclusive titles like Knack and Killzone: Shadow Fall. PS4 system is supported by a host of blockbuster games like Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag from Ubisoft Entertainment, NBA 2K14 from 2K, Battlefield 4, FIFA 14, Madden NFL 25, Need for Speed Rivals and NBA LIVE 14 from Electronic Arts. PS4 also launches with a diverse list of indie games including Blacklight Retribution from Zombie Studios, Warframe from Digital Extremes, and Super Motherload from XGen Studios.In total, the PS4 system will have a library of over 30 games by the end of the year.

The highly anticipated launch of the PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system resulted in 1 million units sold through during the first 24 hours after it became available on November 15, 2013 in the United States and Canada.
