Samsung Unveils Industry First 1TB mSATA SSD

From DailyTech: Samsung has unveiled the very first mSATA SSD in the industry with 1TB of storage capacity. The SSD is the latest addition to the 840 EVO family that launched in July with 120GB, 250GB, and 500GB storage capacities.

The 1TB mSATA SSD uses Samsung 128Gb NAND flash memory manufactured on a 10nm class process technology. Four flash memory packages are used to achieve 1TB of storage capacity.

Samsung says that the 1TB mSATA SSD is 3.85mm thick and weighs just 8.5 grams. That makes the new mSATA SSD 40% thinner than a traditional HDD and one twelfth as heavy.

The 1TB SSD promises 98,000 random read IOPS and 90,000 random write IOPS. Samsung also promises sequential read and write speed of 540 megabytes per second (MB/s) and 520 MB/s respectively.

The new Samsung drive will be available this month with launch date and time depending on region. Pricing isn’t announced for the SSD, but given the capacity and performance offered this definitely will not be a cheap option.
