Gigabyte Z87X-UD7 TH Motherboard Gets Thunderbolt 2 Certification

From DailyTech: Gigabyte has announced that its new Z87X-UD7 TH motherboard has received Thunderbolt 2 certification. Thunderbolt 2 was announced earlier this year, and the onboard Falcon Ridge controller supports 20 Gb/s aggregated data transfer rate across two channels per port

Thunderbolt ports allow the daisy chaining of up to 12 devices per port plus two display monitors per port. The data throughput is twice as fast on Thunderbolt 2 ports than with the original Thunderbolt specification that debuted on Apple MacBook Air and Pro machines in early 2011.

The Thunderbolt 2 spec also incorporates DisplayPort 1.2 supporting 4K content.

The Z87X-UD7 TH also supports the latest fourth generation Intel Core processors, and includes support for 4-way SLI and Crossfire graphics.

The board also features Dual BIOS, comes with EasyTune software, and a PCIe expansion card supporting Bluetooth 4.0 and 802.11ac wireless networking. The USB ports on the board are also able to charge your smartphone or other USB gadgets when the computer is off.

Now if only we could do something about the high price of Thunderbolt cables…
