7.5' Surface Tablet Tipped for May 20 Unveil

From DailyTech: In a market dominated by tablets from Apple and Samsung, Microsoft has relied on its Surface tablets to entice potential customers. The first generation tablets launched in late 2012 (Surface RT) and early 2013 (Surface Pro). The second generation Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 launched in late 2013.

While neither generation of Surface tablets has garnered a large following, Microsoft is hoping to reach a broader audience with a new Surface offering later this month. The company teased the announcement today by sending out invitations to an event that will be held in New York on May 20.

According to The Verge, Microsoft will be announcing a 7.5” Surface that will slot in below the 10.6” Surface 2 and 10.6” Surface Pro 2. While both the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 come with 1920x1080 displays, the 7.5” Surface is said to come with a peculiar 1440x1080 display (4:3 aspect ratio).

The latest reports also suggest that the 7.5” Surface will feature a Qualcomm ARM processor underhood and will run the much-maligned Windows RT operating system instead of Windows 8.1.
