From DailyTech: If at first you don't succeed the rumor mill will keep spinning. That's the story more or less of the long-anticipated Tizen smartphone, which has seen plenty of rumors, but no actual product, thus far.
The company behind the device is smartphone market leader Samsung Electronics Comp., Ltd. (KRX:005930) (KRX:005935). By May it had prototypes of a mid-range Tizen device prepped and production ready to roll. But at the last minute in July Samsung embarassingly decided to pull the plug on the launch of Tizen's first smartphone. Thus after months of anticipation the Samsung Z (SM-Z910F) was a no-show and the the launch event in Moscow, Russia was cancelled. That pullout, which happened in July, called into question the entire future of Samsung's Tizen effort in the smartphone space.
In the months since we've seen the launch of the Tizen powered Gear S smartwatch, which has many unique capabilities, including the ability to make phone calls and to surf the web via its built-in cellular modem. We also heard a rumor that Samsung was prepping the Z1 (SM-Z130H) -- a lower-end sister design -- for launch in India's fast growing market. But that rumor claimed a November launch was planned, and November came and went with no launch.
