Microsoft's Windows 10 Leaves Lumia 530 Behind w/ 8 GB Storage Requirement

From DailyTech: When it comes to Windows in the smartphone space, there's plenty of bad news, but perhaps the strongest positive is Windows 10. Windows 10 is coming to smartphone and soon. It's expected to be flashed to new devices as soon as next month and to roll out to existing devices over the course of the next few months. Windows 10 is a big deal because it brings a lot of new features, and an unprecedented degree of synergy with Microsoft Corp.'s (MSFT) traditional PCs.

With that in mind a hot question is which existing will get the device, and conversely which ones won't support it.

Historically this has been an important question and the subject of some controversy. The Windows Phone OS line -- which Windows 10 swaps out -- began in the autumn of 2010 with the launch of Windows Phone 7. At launch 1 GHz single-core "Scorpion" Snapdragon processors from Qualcomm Inc. (QCOM). (Ironically the launch spec. 8 GB of storage and 512 MB of DRAM has remained relatively static for low end devices).

With the launch of Windows Phone 8 in late 2012, Microsoft drew a hard line, refusing to upgrade such devices. Even flagship models that were as little as a year old were stuck on Windows Phone "Mango" (v7.5). Eventually they would receive the Windows Phone 7.8 update, which would bring many of Windows Phone 8's look and features. Still, the experience of having devices that were less than a year old blacklisted from the latest and greatest update just months later was one that stuck in the minds of many, creating one of the biggest image hits Windows Phone has taken.
