Nintendo Launching New $80 2DS Bundle August 25

From PC Mag: With the launch of the 2DS XL for $149.99, Nintendo is offering the best combination of all its 3DS handhelds in the lightest package. It's also likely to be the last iteration of the 2DS/3DS hardware. But Nintendo hasn't given up on selling more of the smaller, non-clamshell 2DS handheld and is launching a new bundle.

The 2DS is already available in a bundle for $79.99. It comes in electric blue and includes a copy of Mario Kart 7. According to Polygon, the new bundle launches on August 25 for the same $79.99 price point. However, the 2DS is red-and-white, and the included game is New Super Mario Bros. 2.

While Mario Kart 7 is a fantastic game, racing titles aren't for everyone. The 2DS is squarely aimed at the younger segment of the gaming market, so a Mario platformer works well.

I also see this as a clever marketing move because it will highlight the Mario character in the months running up to the launch of Super Mario Odyssey on the Switch. In turn, kids will demanding to play it and even more Switch consoles will be sold.
