From PC Mag: Amazon decided against adopting Android for its mobile devices, instead creating its own Android-based mobile operating system called Fire OS. However, that hasn't stopped the company producing apps for Android, and the latest one managed to fly under the radar for the past month of so.
You may be surprised to hear that Amazon created an extremely lightweight web browser for Android called Internet and is offering to for download on Google Play. It's classed as "extra small" by Amazon, and with good reason. The app is less than 2MB is size so as to maximize the amount of space available on mobile devices for downloading content.
Other compelling features of the Amazon Internet browser include privacy, with Amazon claiming no extra permissions are required to use it and no private data is collected. There's also private tabs to ensure websites can't capture your data, either.
The focus is clearly on simplicity and privacy, but as The Verge points out, unfortunately not everyone can use it right now. Although the app will work on any device running Android 5.0 and up, access is currently restricted to users in India.
