Twitter App Gets Data Saver Option

From PC Mag: Not all of us enjoy access to unlimited data plans and are well aware of the high costs involved when exceeding your monthly data allowance. It can make using certain app a little risky when near your limit, and Twitter certainly counts as one of them.

The messaging-focused social network has become increasingly media rich with images now a regular inclusion in tweets. Worse than that though are the GIF and video embeds, which autoplay and start draining more of your data whether you like it or not. Twitter does have a solution though, and it's starting to roll out this week.

As TechCrunch reports, the Android and iOS Twitter apps are being updated to include a Data Saver option. It's a feature we've already seen used before in Twitter Lite and on the mobile Twitter website, but it's now becoming a core feature of the main Twitter apps.

Enabling it simply requires a visit to the Twitter app settings and the new Data Saver option toggled to on. After that, videos will cease to autoplay and images will load at a lower quality. If you want to see a particular image at higher quality that's easily achieved from the main Twitter menu where a "Load High Quality" option will be present.
