PUBG now free on Xbox with PS4 version rumored for next month

From The Verge: Microsoft has made Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) free to download and keep on Xbox One today. The software giant notes that the full 1.0 release of PUBG for Xbox is “free for a limited time,” and you can download the game free immediately from the Microsoft Store. Microsoft had originally promised “big news” for PUBG fans at the company’s X018 show on Saturday, and it looks like the free PUBG promotion is part of that. It’s not clear how “limited” this free promotion is, or whether existing PUBG fans will receive in-game credits for paying to test a beta version of the game over the past year. PUBG appeared in Xbox Game Preview last year, priced at $29.99.

Microsoft’s free promotion comes at a key time for PUBG. Rumors suggest the game is about to launch on Sony’s PlayStation 4 next month. If the reports are genuine then it means Microsoft paid for a year of PUBG exclusivity. During that year, performance issues have plagued the game on the base Xbox One, and PUBG is currently sitting at three out of fives stars for reviews in the Microsoft Store.

Microsoft also appears to be making Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 free for a limited time, a move that is likely linked to its XO18 show this weekend. You can download Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 free from the Microsoft Store right now, though.
