AT&T Plans 5G Launch for Dec. 21

From PC Mag: AT&T has turned on the first US mobile 5G network today, but it'll be a few more days before you can get online with it. On Friday, the carrier will start selling the world's first consumer mobile 5G device, the Netgear Nighthawk 5G Mobile Hotspot, in 12 cities.

"This is the first taste of the mobile 5G era," said Andre Fuetsch, president of AT&T Labs and chief technology officer. "Being first, you can expect us to evolve very quickly. It's early on the 5G journey and we're ready to learn fast and continually iterate in the months ahead."

The hotspot will initially be available in Atlanta, Charlotte, N.C., Dallas, Houston, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Fla., Louisville, Ky., Oklahoma City, New Orleans, Raleigh, N.C., San Antonio, and Waco, Texas. In the first half of 2019, AT&T 5G will spread to Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Nashville, Orlando, San Diego, San Francisco, and San Jose.
